What is Orff-Schulwerk?

Orff Schulwerk is music for children—an approach to teaching and learning music in a noncompetitive atmosphere where one of the many rewards is the pleasure of making fine music with others. There is a place for every child and each contributes according to his or her ability. Orff Schulwerk is a unique music learning and teaching approach in which speech, song, and instrumental playing are integrated to teach the elements of music. Improvisation is encouraged as a means of developing creative thinking. Orff-Schulwerk training introduces students of all ages to a lifetime of enjoyable experiences with music, both as participants and as informed listeners. The Kentucky Orff-Schulwerk association has provided quality workshops for the region’s teachers for over 30 years. We invite you to explore the information provided and to join us for an exciting year of music making and learning.
